Winter Park, Florida

Finally a post that will be full of pictures and non-food items! Well, food is mentioned but does not require a post unto itself.

We had a rare long weekend which ended yesterday and I wanted to make the most out of it. I rented a car and also had plans to see one of my good friends from Michigan while she was visiting Disney World with her daughter. The weekend got off to a very rocky start which included horrible thunderstorms and confused reservation days which ended up with me essentially driving for four straight hours only to hit up the local Taco Bell before coming right back home. Couple that with a last minute doctor's visit and I decided that Friday was not my day.

Sugar Suspension

One of the greatest perks of my current job is that meals are provided during orientations. These meals can range from muffins to pulled pork sandwiches to chicken parmesan. Personally, I love the mashed potatoes and meatloaf nights and am highly partial to the boxed lunches. Everyone is very much over the boxed sandwiches, chips, fruit and cookie combo but I can't help but look forward to every other day.

My problem has always been my GIGANTIC sweet tooth. After each meal, I want/crave (not need, obviously) something sweet. On day one of orientations I end up with a cookie (or two or three....) and an ice cream treat at the end of the day. Day two of orientation has less temptation and I don't typically indulge in a treat.*

*I define treats as those extras of the day that I don't need: cake, cookies, pie, brownies, churros, ice cream, candy, and even soda.

Lately I have been having sugar binges that I don't quite understand but I definitely know that I feel horrible afterwards. Last week a friend picked up a bag (larger bag) of Skittles since I had been craving them for at least a week. Throughout the week, I did serious damage to that bag! I am not normally a candy person either but it was something I craved and took enjoyment in almost every evening. Last week I also found the yummiest oatmeal raisin cookies in the box lunches and indulged in one (or two or three...) when given the opportunity.

I have been able to cut down on my soda consumption from where I was when orientations started. Coffee, on the other hand, has been a pretty strong addiction that I just don't think will be stopping during this orientation.

Anyway, the whole point of this whole thing is to say that my sugar addiction must stop.
Now.
I am not one of those people that can just take it a little bit at a time either.
I will still be eating things with sugar in them but just not treats (as defined above) with the very occasional soda and the every other day coffee.

I don't like that I crave sugar all day long or especially after a meal. I will indulge if I am out celebrating something or enjoying time with my co-workers but as far as the daily temptations, they have just got to go!

June? June.

Can you believe it is June? And it is almost the middle of the month. Soon it will be July then September then Christmas again. I have no idea where the time is going.

I have some pictures to upload this weekend but am laying very low today. I went out to dinner at Olive Garden last night with some of the O-Teamers which was super fun. I fell fast asleep around 10:30pm last night and didn't wake til 10am this morning! I think my exhaustion finally caught up with me this week plus everyone is getting sick so I am trying my best to take care of myself.

Money has been....interesting here. As I have written before, money is always a tense subject with me. I have plenty of money right now but when I am buying coffee several times a week, splurging on contact lenses, and ordering Domino's every other week, I feel the horrible guilt of spending rather than saving. Add that to the fact that I want to rent a car for the long weekend coming up at the end of June and potentially going to Miami for the 4th of July week. So much to think about!

For today though, I am going to sort through the mound of paperwork gathering on my desk and then start to look through vacation options so I don't waste my time here.

Missing: Home

I love it here, I really do.
However, there are a few things that I really, really miss:

1. My kitchen.

 2. My car

*These things may or may not include the ability to make food instead of ordering out, baking cookies with the sugar monster comes, making green smoothies and french press coffee and easily running errands. A trip to the grocery store the other night was fantastic since I walked there and back and got some great exercise!
